Bo 22nd in wet race at Termas de Rio Hondo

The predicted thunderstorm had come overnight and this morning the warmup was held on a completely wet track. Before the race the rain had stopped but the track was still wet with dry spots on the raceline. The race was declared a “wet race”, but all riders chose to start the race on slicks. Except one: Livio Loi. Could he repeat his victory at Indianapolis last year? When the red lights go out, it’s Fenati with the holeshot, but he’s already overtaken by Binder and Navarro after the first corner. Loi makes a good start and benefits from his wet weather tyres and takes second place halfway lap one. Malaysian rider Khairul Pawi has taken the lead and is storming away at the front, he is on slicks. At the end of lap one he already has a gap of two seconds to Loi and over four seconds over the following bunch. Bo Bendsneyder lost some places at the start and is in twenty-ninth after lap one. Bo is getting in to a rythm and by lap four he is in twenty- fifth.  Loi is falling back; the track is drying out and the grip on his raintyres is getting worse. In lap eight he’s caught by Navarro and Norrodin, a lap later Brad Binder passes him as well. Bo is in twenty- fourth. In lap eleven Bo is up to nineteenth. He’s in a group with Bulega, Fenati and Masbou. They are closing down the gap to Rodrigo in front of them. With four laps to go the fight for fourth is heating up. Binder, Canet, Locatelli, Ono and Mir are swapping places all the time. With three laps to go Canet goes off with a highsider. The two riders in second and third, Navarro and Norrodin are battling it out in the last two laps. Norrodin takes second, but Navarro fights back immediately. In the penultimate corner Norrodin tries again to take second but is caught out by a wet patch on the track; he goes down and Navarro takes second, Binder wins a third spot after Norrodin’s crash. Pawi wins the race, the first Malaysian to ever win a GP in history, with a twenty-six second lead !! Bo Bendsneyder loses out in the fight for nineteenth; he finishes as twenty second. Though not the result he wanted, another strong race for him under treacherous conditions. Bo’s laptime was the fastest of the group : a 1.57, in that last lap.
